Neptunian returns as a regular Mixcloud series with sun-drenched ambient to bring you through the cold and dark winter days.
The 1-hour monthly broadcasts will now appear unedited after 2-3 weeks delay. Also the Planetarium release frequency is down to every 10 days instead of weekly. This is due to less time I can spent on production this year. I hope to be back in full force in the last quarter of 2019.

With “Patch of Sky”, Planetarium explores the open landscapes with the elevating power of drones: The view from above at dawn is the concept here. The first major releases of the new year are out and this set barely scratches the surface. “Fade to Grey” (36), “Expanses Remixes” (The Green Kingdom), “Silent Odes” (Luna Monk), “Parallel Remixed” (Warmth) and “Pala” (Russ Young) are the pioneers going into 2019 territory and if these are anything to go by of what’s to come, we are all in for a treat! The sea arch is Helioscope’s gateway to 2019: With the first mix of my eighth year of producing sets, I introduce newcomers Kin Leonn, Innesti and Kenji Kihara to the Planetarium roster. Coastal ambient is the major theme here, an aural soundscape constructed from reverb-heavy guitars, piano melodies that make you float and sunny drones. Endless Melancholy, Hirotaka Shirotsubaki, Steven Kemner and Umber are thrown into the mix to bridge the cold northern hemisphere winter with these 90 minutes of warm and lush vibes.

“No man’s land”, a term usually reserved for unhabitable places, does not make this cover art justice. In reality, the Zhangjiajie National park is one of the most exciting attractions in all of China. The pillar-like rock formations have this very unique look and inspired the movie Avatar. I had this image by Joshua Sortino as my desktop background for a long time now and decided to dedicate Planetarium’s final (regular) episode of 2018 to it.
Niemandsland encompasses a wide range of styles of ambient music, but the two complementary opening tracks by Loscil, Aaron Martin, Dag Rosenqvist and the amazing acoustic guitar by Seabuckthorn on both set the tone really well. Later in the set, bold and full tracks by offthesky, vau, Yui Onodera, AngusMacRae and InsaDonjaKai are supported by the calmer sounds courtesy of Chihei Hatakeyama, Cheekbone, Anthéne, William Basinki and Lawrence English. As the penultimate track, I chose quite a rhythmic track for a change of pace in the archives of Planetarium.
